Aerospace Engineering

A guide to resources for high school and undergraduate students

Home

My subject guide serves high school and undergraduate students who are very interested in air and space travel and perhaps considering a career in aerospace engineering. Aerospace engineering covers the engineering of aircraft, spacecraft, and missiles or rockets; I have included both air and space-related resources, but no resources on the production of missiles.

The guide begins by providing interesting informative resources in the area to explore. The guide then provides information about organizations, programs, and opportunities that high school or undergraduate students may wish to pursue. All organizations and opportunities represented in this guide are available to U.S. citizens (For instance, I excluded the European Space Agency, a French agency, and the AESS's All India Student Project Contest). I also excluded opportunities that are limited to people who live in a specific geographical area of the U.S. NASA opportunities are listed separately because there are many of them. The guide then offers a page for scholarship opportunities. Finally, the guide gives information about the career opportunities in the field that students will need.

Media: Resources are mainly online for ease of browsing; just a few periodicals and books are included.

Level: High School and Undergraduate. The sources in this guide are more readable for the general population than scholarly articles are.

Language: I have geared the guide towards young people in the United States, so the resources are in English. All career

Currency: Information on organizations, programs, or opportunities presented here is as current as possible. General information about aerospace engineering is no older than 10 years old; many of the scientific concepts utilized in the field, such as aerodynamics, remain constant over time.

All resources in this guide are free to access.

I have allowed redundant entries in this guide for ease of discovery; some resources fit into more than one section.
